I had the chance to attend the Calgary Comic Expo on April 29th 2007. It was an event full of great, friendly and interesting people. There was something for every taste, from movies to comics, from video games to manga comic books.
Well, let's take a look at some of the many artists present at this expo:
Well, let's take a look at some of the many artists present at this expo:
Estrange creatures ambulated the grounds at all times. Where is the stand with the holy water when you need it?.
Ray Park (aka Darth Maul -R.I.P.-, Toad and Iron Fist), incredible down to earth kind of guy. Don't know how many memorabilia he signed, from Darth Maul's busts to Star Wars figurines. Think most of the stuff was already sold on Ebay.At a fan's request, he gave a little but impressive demonstration of his abilities.
Maybe you don't know this guy, but you have played in the playgrounds of his imagination. RK Post illustrations can be found in World of Warcraft, you know, that game nobody talks about.
Robert Picardo, can't remember what Star Trek he worked at, but somebody in the line said he played the coach in the Wonder Years (You know you are a hack at a comic convention when you hear somebody pulling a reference that old, and you are not able to refute it.).
Lost my notes on this guy, if somebody likes his work, here he is for your enjoyment.
Remember Birds of Prey? This is the lady that wrote those spectacular stories for DC comics: Gail Simone.
Don't fear how he looks, this is a true gentleman and the FIRST and ONLY Incredible Hulk: Lou Ferrigno. Do you know what he is doing nowadays? Check Here.
And last but not least, Josh Ortega, the man with the mighty pen. He has written stories for all the mayor comic publishers. There were also lots of independent artists trying to get their break, LOTS of figures and comics for trade and sale.
And that was mostly all folks.
The Calgary Expo in 2008 promises to be bigger and wilder. The event will take two days and there will be some big surprises, according to the event organizers. Who knows, maybe this event will become a major happening in western Canada.
My best wishes for all the participants, volunteers and sponsors.
Till the next Jump.
