Identity Protection Racket
philosecurity » Blog Archive » Identity Protection Racket: "Credit bureaus and credit card companies have direct control over the risk of identity theft. They control the systems for granting and rescinding credit, including fundamental mediums for communication and related security features. Oddly, that doesn’t stop them from trying to profit when things go wrong. Credit companies strongly push their identity theft “protection” services, especially now that identity theft is on the rise. For example, Equifax offers “ID Patrol” and Discover offers “Identity Theft Protection.” These services appear to be effectively glorified credit monitoring services offered at $10-20 a month."
