The Strangest Pictures I Have Seen #4 : "Another thing I learned at the NCS meeting is that a lot of old comic strips survive due to oft-inexplicable pockets of popularity abroad. The Phantom may run in fewer than six papers in the U.S., but he’s huge in Australia and India. The Katzenjammer Kids survive thanks to enduring success in Europe. Mort Walker’s Beetle Bailey is, of course, one of the staples of the American newspaper page, but it’s even more popular in Scandinavian countries. Why? I don’t know. Ask Scandinavia."
